Herndon, VA — Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today that the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan was named a 2022TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

TOP SAFETY PICK+ is based on “good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests plus no less than an “acceptable” rating for standard headlights, and no less than an “advanced” rating for both front crash prevention tests. The 2022 Tiguan earns good ratings in the six crashworthiness evaluations. Tiguan models come standard with LED headlights, with the addition of the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) with dynamic cornering lights on the top trim. The lighting configurations both earn acceptable ratings. The Front Assist system receives a superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and an advanced rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.

Volkswagen’s Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring (Front Assist) is intended to warn drivers of potential frontal collisions (Forward Collision Warning) with vehicles and pedestrians, and in some cases provide automatic braking assistance (Automatic Emergency Braking).

In addition to Front Assist, other driver assistance features offered on the 2022 Tiguan models include Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor) and Rear Traffic Alert. Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE technology is also available on all Tiguan models, and enables Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go and Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System). Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency). In addition to IQ.DRIVE, Park Distance Control, Park Assist (Parking Steering Assistant), Dynamic Road Sign Display and Light Assist (High Beam Control for headlights) are also available.

MSRP for the 2022 Tiguan S starts at $26,490 for front-wheel drive and $27,990 for 4Motion AWD. Building from the S trim, the Tiguan SE starts at $30,120 for FWD, and $31,620 for 4Motion. The SE R-Line Black model is priced at $32,950 for FWD and $34,450 for 4Motion. The top-of-the-line SEL R-Line models are priced at $37,320 and include standard 4Motion all-wheel drive. Destination for all Tiguan models is $1,295.

IIHS launched its front crash prevention rating program in 2013 to help consumers sort through the maze of available technologies and zero in on the systems it determines to be most effective.
